The objective of this study was to create a portable lamp that incorporates a shape memory alloy (SMA) spring attached to its shade, enabling the shade to open and close. This innovative design feature serves to assist the user in timekeeping while providing the convenience of portability.

The movement of the lamp shade is designed to offer a calming and soothing experience for the user. By utilizing a single shape memory alloy (SMA) spring instead of motors, the design eliminates any sound disruptions, further enhancing the tranquil ambiance.
To help users keep track of time, a timer is integrated into the lamp’s battery system. This timer prompts the lamp shade to periodically close and open back up every hour, serving as a visual indication of the passage of time. The movement of the shade not only provides a visual cue but also generates captivating shadows that contribute to the overall aesthetic and ambiance of the space. By combining the timer, the movement of the shade, and the accompanying shadows, the design creates an engaging and functional experience
